-occurs when a person manifests a psychological problem through a physiological symptom
-has frequent physical complaint for which medical doctors are unable to locate the cause
-Two types: Hypochondriasis and Conversion Disorder
Hypochondriasis
they usually believe that the minor issues (headaches, upset stomach) are indicative of a more serious illness
Conversion Disorder
-previously known as hysteria
-report the existence of severe physical problems with no biological reason
-Ex: blindness or paralysis with no medical explanation or abnormalities.
