- Hippocrates: Greek physiologist who thought that the mind and soul resided in the brain.
- Plato (350 BC): Greek philosopher that believed who we are and what we know are innate.
- Aristotle: Plato's student, believed who we are come from experiences
- believed in monism: the mind and the body are made of the same ultimate substance or principle of being.
- John Locke: Believed that knowledge comes from observation and experience
- "tabula rasa": blank slate in which the environment acts upon
- Rene Descartes: "I think, therefore I am"; your personality is innate
